               Pre-Authorized Withdrawal Service (PAWS)

 What is PAWS?

 PAWS is a pre-authorized payment program that provides taxpayers with the option of making monthly  payments towards  the following year’s taxes and future utility bills.  The payment plan assists our residents  with budgeting by reducing the  once a year larger payment of property taxes and twice a year utility bills to 10  smaller monthly contributions. 

 Interest is paid on the amounts held at the Village at prime minus 3%.  Please note, if prime is 3% or less no  interest is  paid.

 In the event that there are taxes in arrears or delinquent or unpaid utilities chargeable on your property, you  may not  participate in the program.

 To leave the program at any time, only 10 days written notice is required. 

 How does PAWS work?

 The program begins with a single authorization:

 STEP 1: Complete the PAWS Authorization Form (see link bottom of page).

 STEP 2: Attach a void cheque.

 STEP 3: Send the completed form with the void cheque to Village Hall (by mail or in person):

 STEP 4: On or before the due date of the taxation year, complete the Home Owner’s Grant (HOG) if eligible,  and remit any  outstanding property tax owing to Village Hall.  On or before utility bill due dates, ensure any  outstanding utility amounts  owing are paid in full.​ 

 Upon receipt of the completed authorization form, the Village will estimate the following year’s taxes owing by  applying an  inflationary factor of 5% to the prior year taxes (minus the HOG if applicable) and dividing the  calculated amount by 10.    The maximum for utility accounts will be calculated based on the last two water  billings plus garbage/green waste annual  fees divided by 10.  If the monthly amount(s) requested exceeds the  maximum(s) permitted, monthly amounts will be  reduced to the maximum permitted.  ​

 Automatic withdrawals of the monthly payment will begin August 15th for 10 months ending
 May 15th the  following year.    No automatic payments will be processed in June or July.  ​

 Credit balances on account will be applied to the following year’s property taxes or next utility bill with monthly  payments  adjusted accordingly.  The Village does not refund credit balances.

 FOR RESIDENTS CURRENTLY ON THE PAWS PROGRAM, PLEASE COMPLETE AND SUBMIT YOUR HOME  OWNER GRANT AND PAY ANY OUTSTANDING BALANCE BY THE DUE DATE. 

 If you are on the PAWS program and wish to continue with the same monthly payment, nothing further is  required of you.    

 If you’d like to adjust the amount or withdraw from the program, please notify the Village Office in writing on or  before July 31st
