Late summer and fall mean more bear sightings as they search for extra food before hibernation. During this time, bears can eat almost non-stop to prepare for the colder months.
Here in Anmore, that can lead them into residential areas if they find easy food sources. You can help by:
- Keeping garbage and compost secured until collection day
- Harvesting fruit and berries as soon as they ripen
- Giving outdoor cooking areas a good scrub after use
- Storing pet food and bird seed indoors
Remember, no bin is truly bear-proof. The longer a bear interacts with your bin, the more likely it is to get in. Removing attractants is the best way to prevent future encounters.
