Development Variance Permit

When a property owner would like to make changes that do not align with the Zoning Bylaw and other Village bylaws, they have an option to apply for a Development Variance Permit to seek an exemption from the requirements. This can include changes to the setbacks or building height restrictions.

Applicants can submit a Development Variance Permit application at the same time as other applicable rezoning or development permits for a proposed project. An approved Development Variance Permit is registered on the title of the property at the Land Title Office.

Prior to submitting a development variance permit application, we recommend that you consult with Village staff by emailing cboit@islengineering.com or phoning Village Hall at 604-469-9877 to make sure that you have all of the necessary paperwork. This will help you save time during the application process.
