Parks, Trails & Public Spaces

Anmore’s lush, green, semi-rural setting makes it a great location to enjoy the outdoors. The Village maintains Spirit Park, Michael Rosen Park and multiple trails, many that connect to neighbouring trail systems. We’re also proud of our community and work with volunteers to maintain our public spaces.

The majority of the Anmore’s abundant trails can easily accommodate strollers. To help conserve natural greenways while expanding this trail system, the Village has adopted a Greenway Strategy, which is designed to connect people to nature and one another by way of integrated park and trail systems, and to preserve wildlife habitats.

Keeping Anmore’s public spaces well maintained and litter-free is a priority for the Village. While staff manage the outdoor garbage bins and collect litter in public areas, community volunteers help through the Adopt a Street Program.

There is also an ongoing need to manage invasive species, which pose a risk to our natural habitats. Working with the Invasive Species Council of Metro Vancouver, Anmore completes an Invasive Plant Management report annually to review how invasive plants are controlled and monitored in Anmore, as well as treatments to remove invasive plants on municipal property.

The Trail Marker Program is a lasting way to celebrate the life of a loved one or honour an individual, group or special event. Trail marker dedications include either an engraved stainless steel plaque (5”x7”) or an engraved lamacoid plaque (5”x7”) and will be placed at trail heads throughout the Village and maintained for a 10-year period.

Purchasing a trail marker is considered a donation and a tax receipt may be issued upon request. The required donation is $1,200, which covers the cost to purchase the plaque, have it engraved, install it and maintain it for period 10 years.

How the program works:

  • Complete the Trail Marker Program Application, including identifying preferred locations.
  • Donation in full is required before the Village reserves the location and produces and installs the plaque. Please note that the Village of Anmore cannot provide a guaranteed installation date as the timing can be affected by delivery of the plaque and weather conditions for installation.
  • Trail marker dedications expire 10 years from the date of installation; however, the dedications can be renewed at the rate in place at time of renewal.
  • The Village of Anmore will contact you before the dedication expires. If we are unable to contact you, or you choose not to renew, the site will be made available for others to dedicate.  Please ensure you advise the Village of Anmore of changes to your contact information.
  • Dedication wording must be received within 30 days of funding.
  • The plaque allows for up to 3 lines of text and 40 characters per line (spaces and punctuation count as a character).
  • Advertising or promotion is not allowed

Anmore’s Greenway Strategy, adopted in 2020, provides a vision for cooperative stewardship of the natural greenways in the community. It is designed to connect people to nature and to one another by way of integrated park and trail systems, as well as to preserve wildlife habitats. The Greenway Strategy includes attainable goals along with a realistic, cost-effective implementation program.

To support the Greenway Strategy goals, the Village will:

  • Work towards an extensive, interconnected network of protective natural lands for environmental conservation and protection, recreation and eco-tourism, community health and wellness purposes;
  • Endorse development of land acquisition strategies for additional trail network systems using incentives for land and financial donations;
  • Ensure all new development respects and encompasses the natural landscape and local ecology, and advances the vision of the Greenways Strategy; and
  • Promote neighborhood Greenways development in new and existing neighborhoods to help link the Village-wide Greenways systems and incentivize property owners to lease or provide easements such as naming sections of trails.

As part of implementing the strategy, the Village will, in appropriate circumstances, secure and protect lands for Greenways, using administrative and regulatory measures such as:

  • purchasing or designating significant natural areas;
  • promoting private dedications and donations;
  • creating supporting policies and regulations through bylaw;
  • securing environmental or greenspace conservation covenants;
  • negotiating statutory rights of way and easements;
  • encouraging amenity contributions at the time of rezoning;
  • establishing stewardship partnerships, and;
  • supporting community Greenway initiatives.

The Village of Anmore’s Adopt a Street program is a cooperative effort between community volunteers and the Village to help maintain litter-free public sidewalks and walkways. The Village welcomes residents and organizations such as schools, local non-profits and businesses to participate in the program.

A commitment to responsible participation is important to achieving our objective of clean, safe and attractive streets. If you are interested in applying, please fill out our Adopt a Street application form.

Invasive plants are non-native species that have been introduced into our environment, where they grow quickly and spread rapidly, overwhelming and displacing native plants, and damaging property. And since they are non-native, they have no natural enemies to keep them in check.

Like all municipalities, the Village of Anmore enforces regulations governing parking on public roads and rights of way. There are public parking restrictions, and the Village also has both a Resident Vehicle Decal program and a Temporary Parking Permit for special events.
